On March 5th, 2005, I attended the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation
Annual Awards Dinner held in Dover, England. I received the Gertrude
Ederle Award for the Most Meritorious CS&PF Swim by a Woman in
2004, sponsored by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.
The award is being presented to me by "Queen of the Channel" Alison
Streeter and Hall of Fame member Frank Richards.

The following morning some of the braver swimmers met at Dover Harbor
for a dip. The Mayor of Dover even came to watch us and make it
official!

The water temperature that morning in Dover Harbor was 38F! A personal
best for the coldest water swum in to date! We swam out about 50
yards and then back to shore. It was definitely "refreshing"!!!

Here I am with the White Cliffs of Dover in the background. As we
were all getting dressed to go to Chaplin's for tea it began to
snow on us!

This is a photo of me with my friend, Marcy MacDonald.
Marcy and I
are the only two American women who have swum the English Channel
two
ways to date.
We're next to the Swimmer Monument near Dover Harbor.

Marcy and I are standing by the Matthew Webb Monument, also near Dover
Harbor.
Matthew Webb was the first person to successfully swim the
English Channel
in 1875

Here are some of my favorite photos from my one-way English Channel swim
on July 28, 2002.

Many of these ferries passed me during my swim on their way back and
forth between Dover and Calais. |

I'm swimming along close to my escort boat. |

Coming in for a "feed".
|
|
This was the largest tanker I saw on my swim. |
|
|
Still happy, even near the end of my swim! |
