“Yoga for Athletes” and “Yoga for Swimmers” Workshops
Discover the “Power of Consciousness”
I’ve been blending both my passions… now offering yoga workshops specifically designed for athletes…
Yoga: the Power of Consciousness – Strength from a Higher Source
In 2004, at the age of 48, I swam from England to France and back to England – non-stop, no wetsuit. How did I do it? We’ll look at how in this workshop. You will learn the same practices I used to enable me to finish this swim.
Working with the energy, or Prana body, we will access a power source of a different kind through some dynamic breath-based practice, developing our pranic intelligence. Participants will learn how to manage mental activity – we are the master, not our mind – and find strength and endurance, all the while steady in ‘the zone’ of moment-to-moment awareness.
I have been a certified hatha yoga teacher since 2001 and have designed yoga workshops and programs specifically addressing swimmers’ issues. Injury prevention and recovery are known benefits of a yoga practice. Rather than practicing Power Yoga and “working out” more, we will be exploring the Power of Yoga to access strength and balance of a different kind. A new clarity and confidence will come as a result of this reliable tool: a yoga practice. I will be addressing swimmer-specific body issues, as well as offering classes in cooler environments that open-water swimmers, who are acclimated to colder temperatures, are able to tolerate.
Yoga has been the cornerstone of my training for all of my channel swims. I can personally attest to the benefits of a yoga practice. Both my doctor and my optometrist have asked me if I’m one of those “Benjamin Button people”…perhaps it is working?
Why Practice Yoga if you’re an athlete?
- Engages inner strength
- Increases cardiovascular capacity
- Promotes recovery in between training sessions
- Helps with injury prevention
- Confidence from within… helps with pre-race jitters!
Testimonials
“I’ve studied yoga for 20 yrs, beginning with Chuck Miller at YogaWorks, and continuing with Shiva Rea, Sean Corne, Erich Schiffmann, and many other hotshots. This evening I took Anne Cleveland’s restorative class and believe she is as talented as those mentioned above.” —Ian
“Just finished ‘Yoga for Swimmers’ taught by Anne Cleveland…now I know why everyone loves yoga! Thank you so much, Anne, for offering this opportunity. Peaceful and feeling great now…it’s the 1st time my neck has not hurt in nearly 2 years. Tears of joy and relief… Anne has the power to heal (heart, mind, body and soul)” —Marta
“Pure bliss! It was just what I needed after a long swim. I felt incredibly relaxed and peaceful when I left. You gave us some excellent stretches to open up our chest area. I highly recommend it and want to do it again. Thanks Ann! Namaste” —Carol
“Great class, Anne. Thanks! I’m still feeling the relaxation a day later.” —Catherine
“Anne was superb in her teaching style for ‘Yoga for Swimmers’. She gently took us through a series of restorative yoga poses that were very calming. As we practiced each pose, Anne educated us regarding the benefits of that particular pose as it relates to swimming. I thought this was great because it made perfect sense why we were doing each swim specific pose. Anne’s yoga class is not only beneficial for swimmers, but for everyone. I felt rejuvenated when I left the class and had the best night sleep in a long time. Thank you, Anne.” —Monique
“I really enjoyed your Restorative Yoga Workshop! This is the first Yoga class I have been to that I really got something out of and really enjoyed. It was the best Yoga class I have ever been to. I especially liked how you related each exercise to athletes.” —Julie
“Mastery of yoga is really measured by how it influences our day-to-day living, how it enhances our relationships, how it promotes clarity and peace of mind.”
